Hi, I'm one of the creators of this site and love parrots! I live in Canada and have 3 parrots... A scarlet macaw called Ruby, an African Grey called Nelson and a blue front Amazon called Janner! I started a fundraiser around the end of June 2012. I brought my African Grey into my L.A class and gave a big speech about African Grey trapping and smuggling. With in a week we had made about $75.00, I didnt have much more time after that for school was over like the next week. We sent that off and then in around August that same year me and my sister did a lemonaid stand and raised a bit of money out of that. The WPT asked if i would want to be featured in their Flock Talk 2013 magazine, and i said yes! I was asked about 12 questions for it. I had alot going on with school and hadn't been able to do very much until this summer. I started an instagram fundraiser. I recently went to Vancouver Island, there is a parrot rescue there called the world parrot refuge. It was absolutly heart breaking! This place is home to more then 900 parrots. Many with broken legs, brokens jaws, plucked bold, no tails, cancer or missing wings and legs. Some birds look absolutly fine but are really sick, there is a hyacinth macaw there called Lucy, she looks perfect and was lovely. But she is in the early stages of cancer and will not last any longer then around 7 years. She is only 6. The majority of the macaws were caught and trapped wild in snars, the majority of the Greys and Amazons have cancer. The worst thing about this is that the government has stopped funding them completely, they say it is a waist of time! This place is relying completely on donations and volunteers. These birds need our help! They used to have a beautiful gift shop, now its a thrift shop. It used to be a lovely big place. Now the special needs parrots live in a very small portable unit.If you want to help go check out their website : worldparrotrufuge.com  If you wish to contact me, I am on Instagram or kik, I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
